Founded in 2020, nojin is a gender-neutral, slow clothing brand. The range consists of a seasonless permanent collection, designed to expand with spontaneous releases. From the initial design and pattern-drafting to the cutting and sewing process, all garments are thoughtfully hand-crafted with an eye to minimizing material waste. Each piece is either made-to-order or produced in small batches. Limited edition pieces are designed around the use of excess material. Nojin uses 100% natural fibers that allow the garment to soften over time, creating a more distinctive and personalized look with repeated wear. With the pairing of timeless, versatile designs and skilled hand craftsmanship, longevity is built organically into the brand.
Nojin was built with the vision of transcending one-dimensional labels and seeking common ground on a more meaningful level. These clothes and accessories are designed to showcase personalities and genders as multifaceted as every single human truly is. They are made for individuals seeking something special to be worn on the outside that will frame and elevate the inner qualities that matter most to them.
My parents, who immigrated from Vietnam to Germany in the early 80’s, used to run a small production line of clothes and accessories out of the corner of their bedroom. As a kid, I spent countless hours watching them sew, fascinated by the industrial machines and piles of fabrics. My parents’ hard work, their skill for hand craftsmanship and these fond memories laid the groundwork as my first inspiration to become an apparel designer.
After working in the design industry for over 10 years, I founded nojin in April 2020 to create something personal and more meaningful to me. The name is an abstract variation on my first name, Ngoc-Hien. As a brand, nojin represents a meeting point between cultures, stands for gender-neutral fashion and believes in slow and mindful consumption. But above all, it honours my parents’ hard work and the opportunities they have made available to me.
